Caribbean Madras Culture – Past and Present Fashion Workshop

Saturday 12 November, 12.30-4.30pm

Free Caribbean fashion history workshop on the Madras traditional outfit.

There will be discussions on the origins of Caribbean Madras fabric, from its beginnings in the region of Madras (now known as Chennai) in India, to its journey to the Caribbean. How its use was influenced by European and African culture and the relevance of the Madras fabric to the UK Caribbean diaspora.

Participants will learn how to make Madras head ties and try on traditional Madras outfits.

Caribbean refreshments and food will be provided.

This event is funded by the Windrush Community Grant, in collaboration with Sakafet London and Neandra Etienne
